Insulin resistance

Are you tired all the time, hungry more often than before, or gaining weight without changing your diet or physical activity? This may be because of insulin resistance. Diabetes has various types, and one of the most common is insulin resistance, a scenario where the body’s cells fail to respond appropriately to insulin. At Sehha Healing Center, we believe in addressing insulin resistance using an integrative approach inspired by the Holy Quran and Sunnah, emphasizing dietary management to enhance insulin sensitivity.

Understanding Insulin Resistance

Insulin resistance occurs when the body’s cells become less responsive to insulin, leading to increased insulin production by the pancreas. High insulin levels can result in elevated blood sugar levels, which, if not well controlled, can lead to Type 2 diabetes in the long run.

Early Signals of Insulin Resistance

  • Persistent Fatigue: Experiencing lethargy during the day even after strictly adhering to bed discipline.
  • Frequent Hunger: Experiencing an urge to eat again shortly after a meal is taken.
  • Increased Thirst: Need to drink more water than usual
  • Weight Gain: Especially in the abdominal area.
  • Blurred Vision:  Having moments of temporary loss of vision.
  • High Blood Pressure: High levels of blood pressure.

Causes

Genetics:  Family history can play a significant role.

Lifestyle Choices: Lack of balanced diet and inadequate exercise schedules.

Obesity: Abdominal obesity or fat accumulation in the abdominal region beyond the healthy limit.

Medical Conditions: Such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Medications: Some drugs may affect insulin sensitivity.

Age: Age also influences the frequency of insulin resistance, which usually rises as age progresses.
